Learning to play the piano should be a positive experience. Our piano instructors are friendly and personable, ensuring that you and your family have a pleasant experience learning the piano. We think a teacher’s personality and approachability is just as important as their training!

As for training: Frederick Piano Academy teachers are qualified instructors.

Having the perfect instructor can make all the difference in your child’s musical experience.

Instruction At All Levels

We love working with beginners as well as advanced pianists, and everyone in between. Our instructors will help to give you or your child the confidence to play the music you love!

Piano Lessons for Beginners

Our lessons for beginners cover the fundamentals of music. Students will learn about how the piano creates sound, note names, key signatures, sharps and flats, and the basics of music theory. When taking lessons with Frederick Piano Academy, as a beginner, you will learn about melody and harmony, how to build chords and use them, how to sightread, and so much more.

We’ll cover the basics of a good technique at the keyboard, and help you to build good piano-playing habits from the very beginning.

Advanced Lessons for Pianists

If you’ve played for years and find yourself generally pretty comfortable at the piano, perhaps you’d like some guidance from a teacher about how to improve your playing even further. We can help you learn to play more musically, and to really get out of the piano the expressive sound that you want to hear. Advanced pianists play music by composers such as Chopin, Rachmaninov, Liszt, and much more.

Music Theory and Composition

Fundamentals of music theory are covered as a normal part of lessons with Frederick Piano Academy instructors.

We’re happy to offer additional instruction, or even separate theory lessons, if you’re interested in exploring the topic further. Music theory is a very interesting topic.

Composition or songwriting instruction is also available.

Why Learn About Music Theory?

To put it simply: because it helps us to understand the music that we listen to, the music that we play, and the songs we love!

Music theory can be thought of as the fundamentals of the language of music. When you’re first learning about the grand staff, the clefs (treble clef and bass clef if you’re looking at a piece of piano music), time signatures, and the basic markings that you find on a piece of piano music, you are learning about music theory. Later, as you progress in your lessons and you learn about how chords work, about major, minor, diminished chords, seventh chords, you’re learning about theory.

Lessons In Your Home

The upside of in-home piano lessons is that your child (or you) are home, a place where you feel most comfortable. Not to mention, the time saved!

We’re happy to travel to student homes throughout Frederick, MD. Whether you live in Downtown Frederick, near Baker Park, in North Frederick, in Ballenger Creek, or anywhere in between, our teachers will come to you!

Walkersville, New Market, and other locations in the Frederick area are also served.
