Learn to play in the comfort of your own home!
Lessons for All Ages!
If you live in Walkersville or nearby (we also serve Urbana, and the city of Frederick) and you’re interested in learning to play the piano, or enroll your children in lessons, we’re here to help. Frederick Piano Academy instructors are glad to work with piano students of all ages, including young children and adult beginners. To register for lessons or get more info, just send us a note.
In-home Lessons for Beginners
You can start taking lessons with Frederick Piano Academy even if you’ve never played before and have zero musical experience. We work with complete beginners all the time.
We’d also be glad to be your child’s first introduction to the piano. We work with children in Urbana from pre-school through high school. We’ve worked with singers. We also love working with children as well as adults who have played for years. No matter the level, we’re here to help your child along their musical journey!
Piano Lessons for Children
We work with children of all ages, from around 4 years old through high school. If you live in Urbana, we’re glad to travel to your home for lessons! As for lesson durations, here’s what we recommend for children:
For very young children, we recommend 30 minute lessons, to start. If you find that your child needs longer lessons we can increase the time. If your child is 3 or 4 years old, we recommend taking one lesson at first, to get a sense of whether they are ready for formal lessons. If your child is not quite ready, we can offer general intro music lessons during which your child will be introduced to the fundamentals of music in a playful way. Your child will explore music through one of the best ways possible: piano lessons!
What will my child learn in piano lessons?
Technique
If your child is just starting with us, we’ll make sure to introduce them to the fundamentals of piano playing and piano technique. This includes, among other things, learning how to sit at the piano in a comfortable and relaxed way that facilitates musical and fluent playing. Your teacher will demonstrate a comfortable and healthy posture at the piano. He or she will explain to your child why it’s important.
As your child progresses in their lessons, we’ll cover fingering (which fingers to use, and when.)
Musicality
Playing the piano well goes far beyond just playing the right notes. Your child’s lessons will cover musicality, and how to really make the piano sing. Your child’s teacher will help your child learn to bring out the melody in a thick texture, to play the accompanying chords a bit quieter or softer, and so much more! Contact us today to schedule your very first lesson!
Music!
There’s been so much wonderful music written over hundreds of years. As part of your child’s musical education they’ll learn about some of the wonderful composers of history as well as the pieces they’ve written.
